How to Stop Binge Eating
The way to stop binge eating is to eliminate the root causes of your need to binge. Actually, it’s not as gnarly as it sounds!

When you are able to stop binge eating, you will be losing weight without exercise.
Meaning of Food Cravings
Food cravings are caused by four different things (at least).
1. Starving for Essential Nutrients
If you are eating a diet containing lots of white foods (pasta, white rice, bread, pastries, potatoes) or fried foods, fast foods or junk foods…your body is lacking essential nutrients. Pretty obvious, right?
So, you’re starving all the time, even while eating gobs and gobs of food. That’s your body saying, “Feed me what I need!”
You will continue to be hungry, even if you’ve eaten a lot. Your body is craving what you’re not giving it.
If you do what these girls are doing, one of your first steps to losing weight is to start eating real, whole food.
That means fresh vegetables, meat, quality fats and some fruit.
2. Endless Cycle of Carb Craving
When your diet is high in sugar and/or starchy carbs you will crave more of them.
That’s why we have the joke of leaving a huge Chinese dinner and wanting more food in a half hour. When you eat a big meal and immediately want something sweet – look at what you ate in the meal. Was it high carb?
This sets you up for wanting more carbs. High carb eating creates a biochemical cycle of wanting more and eating more carbs.
Of the steps to losing weight, this one can be pretty hard at first. You may go through a week of intense carb craving while you train your body to get its nutrients from your body fat instead.
3. Emotional Eating for Comfort
When we are feeling unpleasant emotions, we often turn to food for relief. And carbs are the most comforting comfort foods on the planet!
They just make us feel good – loved, nurtured, safe. What we go for is individual.
Here are some of the high carb comfort foods I crave when my system is off:
- Bread – especially warm bread with butter and honey (my mom baked bread when I was a kid. I loved it fresh and hot with butter and honey)
- Pastries – croissants and English muffins are special favorites
- Pancakes – with butter and maple syrup
- Popcorn – with butter (and sometimes honey too)
- Macaroni and cheese
- Ice cream (the richer the better – forget the low fat versions)
- Potatoes or yams or squash with lots of butter (of course)
- French fries
- Corn chips with any of a variety of dips
- Potato chips, or those fancy new veggie chips
I used to crave exactly this carb craving food and eat it nearly every night – and often in the day too. (That’s when I weighed 25 pounds more than I do now) So I know what it feels like to be at the mercy of your carbohydrate craving.
I lost 25 pounds without dieting and without being hungry when I cleared the issues that taught me this meaning of food cravings. That was truly easy wieght loss! (Yea, I know it’s weight loss)

4. Your intestinal flora is telling you what to eat
Skip this part if you’re squeamish about tiny things living in your gut. Inside your body is a thriving inner ecosystem of micro-flora (good bacteria and yeast) that keep you healthy and strong.
These healthy bacteria and yeast (a type of fungi) help you digest food, absorb nutrients, regulate your blood sugar and manufacture vitamins and minerals.
But if you eat too much sugar and processed foods, take drugs, live a high stress lifestyle or don’t get enough sleep…you create an environment inside your body that encourages the growth of pathogenic (bad) bacteria and fungi like Candida albicans.
Candida, and those other bad guys, love carbs and sugar! They make YOU have carbohydrate craving, even if you are “full.” This is why what you eat is so important. It’s not just about calories in – calories out.

Living in abundance and creating an abundance mentality is all about feeling good about yourself. When you are uncomfortable, tired and feel unattractive, it’s harder to attract a life of abundance.
