Sleep on a soft mattress to ease pain

Recent research has come up with this surprising solution for lower back pain

The old belief that back pain can be relieved by sleeping on a firm mattress is wrong, according to a new study. According to Danish researchers…

A soft bed can work wonders for those with back pain.

They claim that sleeping on a hard mattress may actually make pain worse.

In the study, chronic low back pain sufferers who slept on water beds or body-conforming foam had longer total sleep times and significant reduction in back pain.

However, participants who slept on firm futon mattresses for a month tended to have increased pain and decreased sleep time. Researchers think that soft, body-conforming mattresses help reduce spinal stress by keeping the back in a neutral position.
