Olive oil helps prevent ulcers

The medical view

Doctors are not totally certain how H. pylori bacteria are transmitted from person to person. The bacteria have been found in saliva, so kissing may be one way. They also may be spread through food, water, or contact with vomit (puke) that has been infected with the bacteria.

Their best advice in ulcer prevention is to always wash your hands after you use the bathroom and before you eat and to take good care of your body by exercising regularly and not smoking or drinking.

Olive oil:  A natural approach to prevention

You may have read about the benefits of olive oil.  It’s an important part of the Mediterranean Diet which has been proven to be heart healthy.

We believe that olive oil may be good for your stomach as well. Antioxidant compounds in extra-virgin olive oil may prevent stomach ulcers by destroying H Pylori bacteria, which trigger the painful condition.

According to a preliminary Spanish study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, just a couple of teaspoons a day appears to do the trick.

Of course, you could eat the olives themselves; however it’s easy to store extra-virgin olive oil in a bottle for use without refrigerating.
