Green tea may help you think better if you suffer from sleep apnea

Drinking green tea can help protect your brain

Anti-oxidants in green tea may help reduce cognitive deficits that result from sleep apnea according to a study in rats.  While rats aren’t human, researchers felt that testing on the critters could relate to how we function.

Sleep apnea in people means we periodically quit breathing, which deprives us of oxygen.  That’s what they did with the rats.  They deprived them of oxygen and then gave some green tea and the others water.  Those who drank the green tea performed significantly better on a water maze in which they had to memorize the location of a hidden platform.

People with sleep apnea tend to have higher levels of oxidative stress and changes in brain tissue involved in learning and memory.  So drink green tea and see if it helps you to cope with the maze which is human life on earth.

The Study
The study was published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Green tea may also protect the brain from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and sleep apnea
Green tea ingredients (polyphenols) have anti-oxidant properties.  Observational research suggests that regularly drinking green tea may reduce the risk of developing a variety of diseases.
