Aging Prematurely

Chronological age vs. biological age

Chronological age and biological age are different things. Biological aging is a physiological process that sometimes has very little connection to how old you are chronologically. How old you look is a better indicator of you biological age.

If premature aging didn’t exist, normal human life expectancy is estimated to be more than 100 years.  People are able to live their lives without the pain and suffering caused by chronic degenerative diseases.

Unfortunately, conventional medical care has focused more on symptom relief with pain medications and surgical procedures and less on reversing the accelerated aging process, which is potentially more effective over the long term. If premature aging can be halted and normal function reestablished, then people not only will live longer but also will have a higher quality of life with the elimination of pain.

Although chronic diseases and the aging process may sometimes run parallel, they are not the same thing. You can get sick and even die from many diseases common to old age, but you don’t have to get old to have such diseases. And if you maintain a high level of wellness, you should be able to get older without being condemned to the pain, discomfort and disabilities associated with many disease states. Growing old doesn’t mean getting sick or having chronic pain.

Why do we age prematurely?

Premature aging of your blood vessels, bones, brain, circulation, digestive tract, heart, immune system, joints, skin, etc. can happen at any time of life. Various factors can cause the body to deteriorate, including allergies, excessive radiation, heavy metals, inactivity, injuries that do not heal completely, legal and illegal drugs, overwhelming stress, poor nutrition, smoking and chewing tobacco, or toxic chemicals.

What it comes down to is we age prematurely when we don’t take care of ourselves, and prescription medications are not a solution.  The only real solution is living a healthier lifestyle.

Signs & Symptoms

Sometimes premature aging occurs without any symptoms until, all of a sudden there is a catastrophic event such as a heart attack, cancer, or stroke.  Other times, atrophy or tissue wasting can occur, as in muscle weakness with lack of exercise, mucous membrane and glandular deterioration with decreased hormone levels and brain atrophy in Alzheimer’s disease.

Frequently, however, a body that is aging prematurely sends a message to its owner that there is a problem. The most common signal is pain. The cause of the pain might include such factors as inflammation, joint instability, insufficient blood supply, or pressure within an organ or on surrounding tissues.

The earliest and most obvious signs include men losing their hair or men and women needing reading glasses because of poor eyesight.

Medical Treatment

We think that patients should not accept professional medical advice that they are “just getting older” or that they “will just have to learn to live with it” or that there is “nothing more we can do”. Anti-aging therapy and complementary medicine offers innovative approaches that could become common practice this century.

A health restoration program could begin with medical testing for current diseases and conditions such as testing for blood tests and other tests for antioxidant status, circulation,  digestive analysis, hormone function, immune system function, plaque buildup in the blood vessels, and other aging markers.

While you do want to work with your doctor per his/her recommendations or medical treatment, at the same time you should consider making some lifestyle changes.
